Deer meat is referred to as venison. Venison steaks are actually leaner and contain less fat than beef steaks that come from a cow. Venison steaks can be purchased at a grocery store or prepared by a butcher when you hunt your own deer. Grill your deer steaks with some bacon for extra flavor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Venison steaks
  • 1 pkg. bacon
  • 1 bulb garlic
  • 2 tbs. extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 3 tsp. butter
  • Grill
  • Food processor
  • Toothpicks
  1. Step 1

Prepare a sauce for the deer steaks the night before by placing the following items in a food processor: garlic (peeled), oil and butter. Blend until the garlic is finely chopped and mixed with oil and butter.

  2. Step 2

Turn your grill to medium-high heat.

  3. Step 3

Use some oil to grease up the grill racks. This will keep the venison steaks from sticking to the racks.

  4. Step 4

Rub salt and pepper all over your steaks.

  5. Step 5

Take some uncooked bacon and wrap it around each of the steaks. Use toothpicks to get them to stay on the steaks.

  6. Step 6

Place the deer steaks on the grill. Cook 8 to 10 minutes on each side for a medium steak. Minus 2 minutes per side for a rare steak and add 2 minutes per side for a well-done steak.

  7. Step 7

Set venison steaks on a platter and allow the juices to disperse.

  8. Step 8

Place the garlic-butter-oil mixture in the microwave for 1 minute to reheat and then pour over the steaks. Serve hot.

Tips & Warnings
  • Chop onions and add them to the garlic butter sauce.
  • Remove toothpicks before eating.
