Bamboo represents luck.

Bamboo is a member of the Dracaena family. In feng shui, bamboo represents the wood element. This plant is often used to enhance the energy in a living space and add color. Twisted bamboo makes for an interesting decoration for your home or office since it naturally adapts, making it easy to maintain. The twists are actually created when the plant is laying on its side. Instead of growing up straight toward the sunlight it curls. This process is time-consuming and labor intensive, which is why twisted bamboo are a little pricier. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a vase with rocks, pebbles or marbles for a decorative touch. Depending on where you put the bamboo, you should try to choose complementary materials such as neutral stones or colored marbles.

    • 2

Allow tap water to stand in an open container for at least 24 hours before transferring it to the vase. When tap water has chlorine or fluoride, it causes the leaves of the bamboo to yellow or brown. Use filtered or distilled water if you have salts in your tap water.

    • 3

Place the twisted bamboo in an area of your home or office that receives indirect sunlight. Bamboo naturally grows in the shady canopies of the rainforest.

    • 4

Change the water regularly and add about one-tenth of the recommended house plant food. This will encourage a strong growth rate as well as lush, green leaves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Twisted bamboo makes an excellent gift. If you notice weak growth, it could be because it's not receiving enough light. Also, it doesn't help if your pets chew on it.
