Step 1
Clean out the vehicle thoroughly and photograph it. Take pictures of the outside from several angles. Take photos of the inside upholstery, dashboard, seats and floors. Take special care to photograph any large paint scratches, interior tears or damage.
-
Step 2
Sign up with eBay Motors if you don't already have an account. List the vehicle on the site in the appropriate make and model categories on the site. When you list the vehicle, there are several aspects to the description that will be needed in order to give potential buyers a thorough knowledge of the car.
-
Step 3
Describe the vehicle's history. If you don't know much about its history, get its history online from a site like CarFax. Mention the age of the tires, any work that has been done on the vehicle, any accidents it has been in and whether it has been properly maintained since it has been in your possession.
-
Step 4
Include your terms for the sale. In most cases, retrieving the vehicle will be up to the buyer. If you are willing to deliver the vehicle, mention this in the listing. You might list whether you are located near a freight company that might be able to deliver the vehicle or whether you will only accept the payment in person at the time the vehicle is picked up.
-
Step 5
Add your photos to the listing.
-
Step 6
Set a price that is competitive with the "Kelley Blue Book" value for the car in its current condition. Most people shop for cars on eBay because they can get a bargain, so a price that is too close to the KBB value may not sell. You can choose an auction format with a far lower price to interest buyers and get them bidding, or you can choose a fixed price for your listing.
-
Step 7
Transfer your car's title to the buyer. Each state has laws about the transfer of titles, so be sure to find out what you are legally required to do when you transfer it. You can find out by calling your local department of motor vehicles or visiting its website. Most require a simple bill of sale to be typed and signed by both parties and for the title to be signed by both parties.
