How to Use an Elliptical Exercise Machine
Elliptical exercise machines are a great cardiovascular workout. Essentially these machines have what appear to be small skis on which you place your feet. The skis are attached to an internal track that travels in a circular motion. The skis also have handles on the top of the skis that you can use to enhance your workout. To use the machine you move your arms and feet as if you are running, but because your feet are constantly cradled in the ski your joints do not receive the impact and compression that running causes. Elliptical machines are great low- to no-impact pieces of exercise equipment and are relatively easy to use. Follow the easy steps below to start using your elliptical machine today.

1
Step up to the elliptical machine and place one foot in each ski. If there are foot straps, tighten them first on one foot and then the other. Turn the on-board computer on and select a program to try.

2
Grab the handles with both hands and push forward with your dominant foot, while pulling on the handle of the same side. This should get your momentum started and then you should be able to begin the running motion to continue your cadence.

After doing half of the workout time running forward, stop and pull backward with your dominant foot and push forward with your hand. This will start you running backwards or the opposite way you ran for the first half of the workout. This ensures that your body's muscles get a balanced workout.
