Wireless routers provide Internet users with many different options for surfing, speed control, security and many other things, so being able to log on to your router is very important. All that is required is a computer with a usable web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Router's manual (if possible)
  1. Step 1

Open your web browser and type in the IP address "192.168.1.1"; this is the standard IP for local wireless routers.

  2. Step 2

Wait for the router's login page to load.

  3. Step 3

Type the router's password in the pop-up login window. The default password is shown in your router's manual, but if you've changed the password and cannot remember it, you must reset the router. Hold the power button on your router for up to 30 seconds to do this.

  4. Step 4

Change any options desired in the router configuration page.

  5. Step 5

Save any changes you make by clicking "Save and Exit" at the bottom of the screen.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you cannot locate your router's manual, look up the manufacturer's website to locate the router's default password.
  • Be careful when changing your router's settings. Many of these settings, when changed from their defaults, can cause your Internet connection to work improperly.
