Things You'll Need:
- Dawn dish soap Water Citrus extract Bowl Flea comb Empty spray bottle Water Lavender oil Cedar oil Salt
-
Step 1
Fill a little dish with a drop of Dawn dish soap and lukewarm water. Add 2 drops of citrus extract to the bowl and stir. Place your newborn puppy in the mixture, and wet with the water from head to toe. Keep the puppy in the mixture for 5 minutes. The fleas on the puppy will not be able to hop out of the slightly soapy water and will drown. Rinse your puppy off and dry him well so he doesn't get a chill. Repeat the process with all the puppies and then with the mother in a bathtub.
-
Step 2
Use a flea comb to comb through the mother's hair to get rid of any leftover fleas. The combs are available at pet stores. The puppies won't have any fur to comb through, but if you neglect the mother, she will just pass the fleas back to the puppies.
-
Step 3
Fill a spray bottle with lukewarm water. You can get spray bottles for $1 at the dollar store. Add 4 drops each of lavender oil and cedar oil. Place the lid back on the spray bottle and shake to combine. You can spray this mixture on the mother and puppies up to three times per day. It is a homemade flea spray that contains all natural ingredients.
-
Step 4
Wash all of the puppies' toys and bedding in hot water and soap. This will kill any fleas that are on them.
-
Step 5
Confine the puppies and their mother to one room at bedtime. Sprinkle salt on every carpeted floor in your home and leave it on overnight. Vacuum before you let the dog and her puppies out to play. Then leave salt in the room in which you confined your dogs. Vacuum it up before bedtime. Salt damages the fleas' exoskeletons, killing them.
