How to Clean the Inside of Snow Globes

Snow globes are beautiful ornaments that can be used in any room of the house. They can be pretty keepsakes or family heirlooms. Most people like to collect and display their snow globes. Sometimes, though, these adornments become dusty and dirty, even on the inside. If you like to collect snow globes, you may find yourself wondering how to keep them clean. Some snow globes are cleanable, but others are not.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Medicine dropper
• Household cleaner or window cleaner
• Glitter (optional)
• Sponge (optional)

1. Locate the access plug on the bottom of your snow globe. (If there's no access plug, you cannot clean the inside of your snow globe.) Turn globe upside down, preferably supporting two or all sides. Slowly and carefully, without much pressure, remove the plug and set aside.

2. Turn snow globe right side up and slowly dump out the water. Preserve anything in the water, such as small artifacts that you wish to keep inside the globe. Other small things such as glitter and snow flakes can be replaced, so do not worry about those.

3. Take a small medicine dropper and fill it about a quarter full with household cleaner or glass cleaner. Fill the rest with water and soap mix.

4. Spray a few squirts into the globe, replace the plug and gently shake, taking care to distribute the mixture over the entire globe. You may let it sit or dump it out immediately.

5. Rinse and replace the water inside the globe. Replace all small materials that were set aside. If you wish, redistribute the snow flakes and glitter. Insert the plug snugly, and slowly and carefully test it to make sure it is secure.

Tips & Warnings

• You may want to attach a small sponge to the end of a stick and wipe down the inside of the globe before replacing the water. After cleaning, be sure to store your globe at room temperature, as unsuitable temperatures can cause cracks, leaks and even discoloration of the water. When storing in a box or drawer, wrap it with newspaper to avoid scratches and cracks.
