Things You'll Need:
- Photoshop or other graphics program
-
Step 1
Get a photo or drawing of the car that will be the subject of your poster. You can scan in a drawing or photo or upload it and save it to your computer. You might also find a public domain photo or drawing that you would like to use for your poster. Once you have selected your image, save it.
-
Step 2
Open a new document in Photoshop or a similar graphics program like Corel Draw or Art Rage (see Resources). Set the dimensions of your poster in terms of width and length; for printed documents, you will want to save the resolution to at least 150 pixels.
-
Step 3
Decide on a background image, pattern or color for your poster and what size you want your border to be. You can have a simple background using just a color, or you can bring in an additional photograph as your background. If you bring in a photograph, resize it to fit your poster's dimensions.
-
Step 4
Create a new layer and bring in your custom car image. You can use the "Magnetic Selection" tool to select your car. Then, go to "Select" and click "Inverse" and delete the extraneous elements in the photograph that will not be a part of your finished design. How artsy you want to make your image is up to you. There are a number of filters and other tools in Photoshop's arsenal that allow you to make your poster as simple or elaborate as you like. Remember to save each new element to a separate layer, as this allows you to more easily go back to a previous step and take your image in a different direction if you need to.
-
Step 5
Print your poster on 11-by-17 paper you can purchase from an office supply or a retail store like Staples or Walmart (see Resources). If you need a poster larger than11 by 17, having it professionally printed is probably your best option. In this case, you will need to save your image to a CD as a high resolution JPEG.
