Step 1
Look for brand-name washers. Some examples are Maytag, Whirlpool and Kenmore. These brands usually have a large variety of front load washers from which to choose. They also have a good reputation when it comes to quality. Compare the off-brand versions if you need a cheaper alternative.
-
Step 2
Recognize the differences between energy-saving washers and their traditional counterparts. Energy-saving means less water will be used during the wash cycle. Energy-saving means more money you can save and a better choice for the environment. Be aware, however, that compared with top loaders, front load washers use less water even if they are not energy efficient.

Step 3
Washer tubs can be made of different materials. There is stainless steel, porcelain and plastic. Stainless steel is the preferred material. The tub will last the lifetime of the washer and will not chip off or crack the ways others can.
-
Step 4
Determine the tub capacity you need. If you consistently have large loads to wash, you may need a large tub capacity. Otherwise, a medium capacity will work fine. A good start would be from 3.1 cubic feet to 4.7 cubic feet.
-
Step 5
Look for special features and settings, such as numerous wash cycle settings, automatic heat settings, automatic detergent release and steam cleaning cycles for sanitizing and removing stains. These features will make the washer more expensive, so consider your budget and which features are most important to you.
