How to Make Large Paper Carnation Flowers
Paper carnations are pretty and colorful decorations for parties, luaus, backyard barbecues and parade floats. Large paper carnations fill the need for decorations in large areas quickly due to their size. They are a quick and easy paper flower to make. You can make large paper carnations in the weeks before an event. Choose from the many colors and shades of tissue paper that are available for spring, autumn and summer colors. Children will be able to make these large paper carnations with your guidance.
Things You'll Need
- Tissue paper
- Florist wire
- Floral tape
- Pinking or wavy edge scissors
- Wire cutters

Lay four full sheets of tissue paper out on your work surface. Cut the sheets down the middle. Stack in an even pile of eight pieces.

Cut a 24-inch piece of wire. Bend the center over a pencil.

Starting at the long end, fold back 2 inches of paper and continue fan folding in the 2-inch width. Keep the folds as even as possible.

Place the wire over the center of the folded paper. Twist the wire to secure the paper center without smashing it.

Wrap the wire stem with floral tape starting directly under the paper petals. Wrap down the length of the wire.

Cut the short edges of the fan sides with pinking or wavy scissors.

Carefully pull the layers of paper apart starting at the center. Fluff the carnation petals as you separate the layers.

Tips & Warnings
Color the carnation edges by brushing them with a marker.
Store completed carnations in a basket or vase to keep from being crushed before decorating with them.
