How to Fold Origami Neck Ties
An origami necktie would make an original gift for Father's Day or a dad's birthday. Or perhaps you have a son who loves to dress up like his father and would relish having his own necktie to make the look complete. Origami can be done with almost any foldable material, but paper is the most common. This necktie project is a good one to do with children.
Instructions

-
1
Fold the corners of a square piece of colored origami paper downward to form a triangle.
-
2
Turn the paper sideways so that the thick point of the triangle, or the top, is facing left at 90 degrees.
-
-
3
Unfold the paper, and you will see the creases where the paper was folded. Fold the outside corners to line up with the center crease of the paper.
-
4
Flip the tie over. Fold the top corner down completely, so that the edge at the top is straight.
-
5
Fold the bottom edge of the top corner back up, leaving some room at the top so that there is an edge. It will resemble a square spring.
-
6
Take the corners of the top part that hasn't been folded and fold them upward so that a small triangle in each corner will stick up from the tie.
-
7
Flip the tie over again. Take the entire right side of the tie and line its edge up with the center line. Fold all edges down and make sure the entire right side is fully down.
-
8
Repeat Step 3 for the left side of the tie, folding down all corners and edges of the tie that don't want to stay down. You'll want to make sure every folded part is well-creased to help it lie flat. If needed, tape or glue the back edges of the tie down.
-
9
Flip the tie over and smooth it out.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure to fold only the parts that need folding. You don't want unsightly and unnecessary creases all over the tie. Mistakes are natural but can be avoided if you're careful with the tie.
