The Fiat Rosary, which is an abbreviated version of the traditional rosary, is a Catholic devotional that focuses on Mary, the mother of Jesus. The rosary includes unique prayers and creeds that allow the worshiper to meditate on the Virgin Mary's devotion to Jesus and God. The Fiat Rosary takes about 10 minutes to pray and is said using a special rosary. The rosary is divided into three sections instead of five, and the centerpiece is a medal rather than a crucifix.

Things You'll Need:

  • FIAT rosary

    Beginning the Fiat Rosary

  1. Step 1

Find a quiet place that is conducive to prayer and meditation.

  2. Step 2

Begin the Fiat Rosary by making the sign of the cross. Grasp the medal and recite the Fiat opening prayer. The Fiat prayer may not be a familiar prayer; see the resources section of this article for a link to the text of the prayer.

  3. Step 3

Offer any church, world and personal intentions, then move on to the bead above the medal and recite the Our Father.

  4. The Joyful Mysteries

  5. Step 1

Move on to the blue bead to the right of the medal. Each colored bead represents the introduction of three mysteries of the rosary, beginning with the Joyful Mysteries on the blue bead. Announce the first Joyful Mystery, "The Nativity of Mary," on the blue bead. Follow that with three Hail Marys, one on each of the three following small beads, and a Glory Be on the fourth larger bead.

  6. Step 2

Remain on the fourth bead and recite the name on the second Joyful Mystery, "The Annunciation," then move on to the three following small beads, reciting a Hail Mary on each one. Recite a Glory Be on the fourth larger bead.

  7. Step 3

Remain on the final large bead in the section and announce the third Joyful Mystery, "The Nativity of Jesus." Move on to the three following small beads, reciting a Hail Mary on each one. Recite a Glory Be on the red bead that follows the trio of small beads.

  8. The Sorrowful Mysteries

  9. Step 1

Remain on the red bead and move on to the Sorrowful Mysteries. Announce the first Sorrowful Mystery, "The Agony of Jesus." Then, recite a Hail Mary on each in the trio of smaller beads that follows. Recite a Glory Be on the fourth bead.

  10. Step 2

Remain on the fourth bead and announce the next Sorrowful Mystery, "The Carrying of the Cross." Recite a Hail Mary on each of the three following beads, then a Glory Be on the fourth bead.

  11. Step 3

Remain on the large bead and announce the final Sorrowful Mystery, "The Crucifixion of Jesus." Say three Hail Marys on the following three beads, then a Glory Be on the yellow bead.

  12. The Glorious Mysteries

  13. Step 1

Remain on the yellow bead and announce the Glorious Mysteries, beginning with "The Resurrection." Recite three Hail Marys on the following three beads, then offer a Glory Be on the fourth bead.

  14. Step 2

Announce the next Glorious Mystery, "The Pentecost." Move through the next three beads, reciting a Hail Mary on each. Say a Glory Be on the larger bead.

  15. Step 3

Remain on the larger bead and announce the final Glorious Mystery, "The Assumption of Mary." Say the final three Hail Marys on the three small beads, then the final Glory Be on the amber bead, which will be the last in the circle.

  16. Concluding the Fiat Rosary

  17. Step 1

Remain on the amber bead and begin the final invocations. Start with this prayer: "St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, protect us. St. Michael the Archangel, from the powers of evil, defend us. All the angels and saints, pray for us."

  18. Step 2

Finish the invocations by praying, "O Mary, teach us always to say 'yes' to the Lord. O Mary, every moment of our lives. O Mary, teach us always to give thanks to the Lord. O Mary, every moment of our lives."

  19. Step 3

Finish with the sign of the cross.
