Hair clippers won't work properly if you don't keep them clean. This means giving them a little attention after each use. This may take you an extra few minutes each time you use the clippers, but it will keep your clippers working twice as long.

From Quick Guide: Hair Trimmers 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Toothbrush
  • Rag
  • Wahl Clipper Oil
  1. Step 1

Give your clippers a little shake over the bathroom trash can after using them. This will get any large clumps of hair off the clippers.

  2. Step 2

Keep your clippers plugged in and turn them on.

  3. Step 3

Pour white distilled vinegar over the blades. Flip the clippers over and pour the vinegar over the blades again. You might want to do this over the trash can.

  4. Step 4

Use a toothbrush to help the white vinegar clean the blades. The toothbrush can remove the smaller pieces of hair. These are the pieces that can jam up the machine and make it harder for the clippers to work at full force.

  5. Step 5

Pour more white vinegar over each side of the blades and shake them over the trash can.

  6. Step 6

Wipe the vinegar off the hair clippers with a rag.

  7. Step 7

Lubricate the hair clippers with Wahl Clipper Oil (see Resources).

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use alcohol if you don't have white distilled vinegar.
  • Be careful you don't get any vinegar in the motor. This will stop the clippers from working at all.
