This is a general description of the procedure involved in changing pads and rotors on a GM vehicle. First park the vehicle on a level surface, lift and support the car safely.

Instructions

    • 1
      Remove tire.

      First park the car on a level surface, lift and support the car safely.
      With the car safely supported remove the wheel and tire furthermost from the master cylinders location, Were doing only the front axle so we will start at the passenger side front

      Caliper bolts

      Wheel and tire removed locate the calipers retaining bolts,( shown here in the fields ) remove them and remove the caliper from the caliper bracket, remove the pads and pad slides.

      Support caliper with stiff wire.

      Support the caliper safely out of your way, before proceeding, with the remainder of this procedure

      Bracket bolt (BLUE)

      Locate and remove the caliper bracket bolts. ( indicated in blue on this application ) Then remove the caliper bracket. With the bracket removed, you can slide the disc off the drive hub.

      Inspect.

      Inspect the drive hub and axle boots and seals. Then proceed to install the new disc.

      New disc.

      Install the new disc and check to insure a correct fit.

      Replace caliper

      Reinstall the caliper bracket, pads and the caliper, be sure to tighten all the bolts to the correct torque.

      Bleeder

      Locate the bleeder valve and bleed the brakes to purge air from the lines. Bleeding should be done by vacuum.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep plenty of rags on hand, keep your hands and parts clean at all times.

  • Be sure the vehicle is supported safely before proceeding with this project.

  • Brake pads contain asbestos observe safety precautions when handling parts.
