1
Take a look at the different styles of skateboarding shoes on the market. Look at the shoes your friends wear or glance at the thousands of shoes online (http://www.skateamerica.com/store/). Get a general feel for styles or brands that appeal to you.
-
2
Draw some basic outlines of skate shoes, including both sides and front and back. Photocopy these outlines onto several sheets of paper to use as a template for further design ideas. Include a couple of different shoe shapes with which to experiment.

3
Experiment with different design ideas. Most skate shoes have a flat, thick sole. The upper part of the shoe is quite thick but narrows abruptly into a small toe. Skate shoes often have eclectic designs that only make sense to skaters. They incorporate unusual patterns and almost always display their logos prominently. Try large alternating bands of colors or patterns.
-
4
Create your own logo or design for your skate brand. Skate shoes always have some sort of cool logo associated with a brand. Design a simple logo made of letters or an icon. Make your logo into a stencil to use on your shoes.
-
5
Buy a pair of generic white skate shoes. Draw your designs onto them with a pencil and then use fabric markers or fabric paints to color them. Use your logo stencil to stamp the shoe with your distinct skate brand.
