Find out a cell phone provider by phone number.

Phone directories both online and in print do not list cell phone numbers, so it's virtually impossible to determine the name of the person using a particular cell phone number. You can, however, determine what provider (cell phone carrier) the person uses with the phone number.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Using your home computer, log onto the Internet. Open your favorite Internet browser.

  2. Step 2

Visit Fone Finder (see Resources). Fone Finder is a free online service that will allow you to determine the cell phone provider for any cell phone number you put into the search fields. You can search U.S. cell phone numbers and international cell numbers.

  3. Step 3

In the appropriate fields, put in the cell phone number's area code, prefix and the seventh number, respectively.

Alternately, you can search by city or zip code, but because several cell phone providers can service any given area, the results will not be nearly as accurate as if you know the phone number.

  4. Step 4

Click the red "Search by Number" button next to the phone number fields that you've just filled in.

  5. Step 5

When this new page loads, you'll be given detailed information about the cell phone provider associated with that cell phone number's area code and exchange. If you don't know the location of the city that it indicates, click on the button under the "Map Link" column on this page so that you can locate how where that person is in relation to your location.

on 11/20/2009 This only gives you the company which originally issued that number. If it has been ported to another service provider, you're out of luck.
