How to Build an Indoor Wall Fountain
Indoor wall fountains bring serenity, along with the soothing sounds of flowing water to any room in your home. You can easily build your own indoor wall fountain with slate tiles, a sheet of Plexiglas or a thin slab of stone. Mount smaller fountains directly on the wall or use the reservoir as a stand for floor-to-ceiling water fountains. The instructions listed here are for a 6-foot-tall by 2-foot-wide wall fountain that sits on the floor and rests against the wall. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 6-by-2 Plexiglas sheet, 1/2 inch thick
- 4-foot-long by 2-foot-wide copper planter, 10 inches deep
- 2 1/2-foot-long rectangular copper planter, 6 inches deep
- 12 12-by-12 slate tiles, 3/8 inch thick
- Waterproof adhesive
- Plumber's putty
- Auto adhesive
- 2 large river rocks

1
Lay the Plexiglas sheet on a flat surface. Apply waterproof adhesive to the back of one piece of slate tile and press the tile firmly onto one corner of the Plexiglas. Liquid Nail is a good choice for this project, but any strong waterproof adhesive will work. Apply adhesive to another tile and place it beside the first one, as close as possible. Grouting is not necessary for this project, so don't leave spaces between the tiles. You can also select three 24-by-24 inch slate tiles if they are available in your area. Completely tile the surface of the Plexiglas.

Place the 4-by-2 foot copper planter on the floor in front of the wall for the fountain. If the planter has drainage holes, fill them with plumber's putty so the planter will be water tight. Attach the planter to the wall or the baseboard with auto adhesive. This is a rubbery substance that you will knead with your hands to soften it, then affix it to the back of the planter and press against the wall. Follow the manufacturer's directions for setting the auto adhesive.

3
Stand the tiled Plexiglas inside of the copper planter, after the adhesive is fully set. Place the two large river rocks in the planter in front of the slate wall. The rocks will help brace the slate wall. Rest the top of the Plexiglas against the wall.

4
Place the fountain pump inside the copper planter and attach the plastic tubing included with the pump. Run the electrical cord outside the back of the planter and run the plastic tubing up the back of the slate wall. Attach the top of the tubing to the top of the slate with auto adhesive.

5
Cover the top of the slate wall with the other copper planter, turned upside down. Attach the planter to the wall with auto adhesive.
-
6
Fill the planter with water before you turn on the pump.
