Ceramic hair straighteners are favored both for salon and home styling. Ceramic straighteners heat more evenly than metal straighteners, and the even distribution of heat makes for a smoother straightened style. Ceramic straighteners also aren't as susceptible to chipping or cracking as metal and glass straighteners. In order to enjoy the benefits of your ceramic straightener for a long time, you need to clean the ceramic plates. A buildup of hair spray or other styling products can also affect your hair style. Cleaning the ceramic plates requires only a few products and a few minutes of your time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Cleaning Ceramic Hair Straightener Plates

    • 1

Plug in your ceramic straightener and let it heat up until warm, roughly 3 minutes.

    • 2

Unplug the straightener, and let it cool just long enough for it to be warm but safe to touch.

    • 3

Pour some rubbing alcohol on a washcloth and rub it along the ceramic plate. You can do this one plate at a time, or place the washcloth between the two plates and pull it out from between them. The washcloth works good for the first rubbing, because it has a rougher surface and can help dislodge any hair-styling products that have dried on the plates.

    • 4

Pour some rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball, and clean off the ceramic plates individually.

    • 5

Dip a cotton swab into alcohol and squeeze out any excess. Rub the cotton swab along the grooves on the outer edge of the ceramic plates.

    • 6

Put some warm water on a cotton ball, and rub it along the ceramic plates to remove any excess alcohol, and do the same with a cotton swab around the edges.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you clean your straightener right after styling, remember to give it time to cool first.

  • Never attempt to clean a straightener while it is still plugged in, even if it is off. Unplug it from the power source before cleaning to avoid risk of electrocution.
