How to Get Rid of Spyware Infections
Spyware (or Malware) has become a growing problem and can sometimes represent a greater threat than viruses. Spyware can cause system instability, transfer private data and generally make using a computer difficult by using pop-ups and browser redirects. But there is a way to clean up your computer using Spybot Search and Destroy.

Remove Spyware with Spybot Search and Destroy

Download and install Spybot Search and Destroy. On the Select Components screen, make sure "Download Updates Immediately" is checked. Use the Default options for all other prompts.

Start Spybot Search and Destroy. The first time the program runs, you will be prompted for a Wizard. Click "Next" for each step and then "Start Using Program."

Click on "Search and Destroy" from the left-hand column.

Click "Check for Problems." This scan may take as long as several hours to complete and display the results.

Click "Fix Selected Problems" and then click "Yes" to confirm removal.

Spybot Search and Destroy will report how many problems it is able to remove. Some infections may require a reboot, upon which another scan will immediately start.

Run Search and Destroy again to verify the infection has been removed.

Tips & Warnings
Spybot isn't the only anti-spyware program available. Malwarebytes and Lavasoft's Ad-Aware are also useful programs for removing spyware.
Before removing spyware, check the results. On occasion, Spybot may mistakenly identify a good file as an infected one.
