Easily share your multi-function printer over a network

A multi-function printer is a useful and versatile piece of equipment, whether you use it at home or your office. Even if you have multiple computers, you do not need to purchase a printer for each one. You can simply use your existing local network to share your multi-function printer so that every computer on your network can use it to print files and documents. Although the process can seem intimidating, you can quickly and easily share your multi-function printer over your network.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to the computer that is connected to your multi-function printer. Click the "Start" button, and then select the "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and select "Network and Sharing Center."

  2. Step 2

Locate and select the small arrow next to "Printer sharing." Click the "Turn on Printer Sharing" option and press the "Apply" button. Make sure that your multi-function printer is turned on and that the computer is connected to your local network.

  3. Step 3

Go to the computer that you want to share the multi-function printer with. Make sure the computer is connected to your local network. Click the "Start" button and in the search box type "\\" followed by the name of the computer that the printer is actually connected to (for example: "\\maindesktop"). Click "Enter."

  4. Step 4

A folder will open on your screen. Double-click "Printers" to see the shared multi-function printer on your network. Double-click the shared printer. Your computer should immediately add it as a printer on its system, and Windows will install the printer driver software. Click "Next."

  5. Step 5

You will now be able to see the shared multi-function printer in your "Printers" folder. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for every computer you want to share the printer with.
