How to Make a Boat for a Skit
Transform an ordinary cardboard box into a boat able to set sail across a stage for a skit. The passengers of the boat stand inside the box, which has holes cut in the bottom. On their shoulders, passengers wear rope straps that are attached to the sides of the box so they can walk and move the boat. Pieces of cardboard cut and painted to look like waves are glued to the sides of the box to make the boat appear to be on the water.

1
Use one box to make the main part of the boat. If the box has been broken down, re-glue it to its original shape.
-
2
With the box lying down, cut off nearly all of the side that will be the top of the boat. Leave a few inches around the edges for stability. Cut holes in the bottom of the box where passengers will stand. Do not cut out the entire bottom of the boat. Doing so will make the box too flimsy.

3
Directly above where the passengers' holes were cut, cut two small holes 12 inches apart from each other and 2 inches from the top on each side of the box. These holes are where the rope for shoulder straps will be placed. Do not put the rope through the holes yet.
-
4
Paint the boat as desired.
-
5
Cut two pieces of cardboard in wave shapes from the second box. Make the waves as long as the boat and as tall as desired. Paint the pieces blue with some white, curvy lines to simulate the action of waves. Hot glue the waves to the sides of the boat.
-
6
Cut lengths of rope long enough to reach from the side of the boat where one rope hole was cut, up to the wearers' shoulders and back to the corresponding hole 12 inches away. Add an additional 10 inches of rope length to allow for tying through the holes. Put rope through holes and tie off.
