While not commonly seen in daily fashions, handkerchiefs are still popular accessories for formal men's clothing. There are many possibilities for folding handkerchiefs, but once mastered, a flair is added to any suit. Choose the folding pattern which you are most adept at making, since a simple, perfectly folded handkerchief will look better than a complex fold that is not done neatly. Be sure that your tie matches the color of your handkerchief.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Suit with front pocket
  • Square standard size handkerchief

    Basic Square Fold

  1. Step 1

Fold the handkerchief in half to make a rectangle.

  2. Step 2

Bring one of the narrower sides of the rectangle up until it is about 1/2-inch below the other end. These two mismatched ends will be the front of the handkerchief when you put it into your pocket.

  3. Step 3

Fold the rest of the handkerchief into three even sections so that it will fit inside of your pocket. Place it in your front pocket, being careful to not fold it.

  4. Single Corner Fold

  5. Step 1

Fold the handkerchief in half to form a triangle.

  6. Step 2

Bring the two bottom corners of the triangle to the sides of the triangle. You will have a shape that resembles a square house with a pointed roof.

  7. Step 3

Place this into the front pocket of your suit so that the "roof" of the "house" is sticking outside of the pocket.

  8. Three Point Fold

  9. Step 1

Fold the handkerchief into a single large triangle.

  10. Step 2

Fold the two bottom corners up and past the sides of the triangle. Instead of having a house shape, you will have three points on top instead of one.

  11. Step 3

Place the handkerchief in your pocket with the folds in toward your chest.
