How to Make Fishing Lures at Home
Fishing is a fun and exciting sport for people of all ages and skill levels. Lures are one of necessary "tools," but they can be quite expensive, especially if you fish in areas that you tend to lose bait because of overgrowth and difficult conditions. A lot of fishermen make their own lures to cut the cost of bait as well as give themselves the opportunity to customize bait for the bodies of water in which they most frequently fish. After making your first lure, you'll be "hooked" on how easy and fun it can actually be.

1
Put a pot over low heat. Place 1 ounce of liquid plastic in the pot. Stir with a wooden spoon as it melts. Continue to melt the plastic, making sure it doesn't get beyond a simmer. Add plastic coloring to the mix and continue to stir.

If you choose to use glitter, add it in next and stir thoroughly. Set a mold on a flat surface such as a counter top. Place a hook in the mold cavities and carefully pour the plastic liquid in the molds. Be sure the hooks don't slip or move.

3
Gently tap the molds against the counter; this will remove any bubbles and flatten the surface of the liquid. Allow the mold to sit for 5 minutes.

4
Find a large plastic dish that will hold the mold. Fill the plastic food dish with 1 inch of water. Place the mold in the water. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes and then carefully remove it. The water helps the liquid set and harden more quickly.

5
Flip the mold over slowly and gently push the lures out onto a paper towel. Coat the lures in fish oil and let them dry for a couple minutes. Package and store for use later.

Tips & Warnings
Wear a mask when cooking the liquid plastic, because it gives off fumes.
Mix colors to create unique color combinations
Do not allow the plastic to boil; it will kill the texture and can ruin your pans.
