Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser
-
Step 1
Break down the sailboat into simple shapes: triangles and rectangles.
-
Step 2
Block each section out in a simplified manor. Play around with the placing and proportion to each other to create the image.
-
Step 3
Set the perspective of the sailboat as if it is in the water. Practice the blocking shapes until you feel comfortable with the look.
-
Step 4
Start adding in more details, such as the flag, poles and seating area. Practice the placement and proportions.
-
Step 5
Try to set the sailboat in the water. Add water splashes. Start with having it barely in the water, and move up to having the boat more set in the water.
-
Step 6
Practice drawing a sailboat by looking at one. Pay attention to the main lines of the sailboat that make it distinguishable. As you get more comfortable and are happy with the shape, you can then go into shading and coloring it.
