How To Make Sponge Cake Tiramisu
Tiramisu is a wonderful Italian dessert, traditionally made with lady finger cookies. It's very rich and can only be eaten in small quantities. The tiramisu sponge cake is a little less rich but still filled with all the great flavor of the traditional dessert. If you want to impress your guests, this is the dessert to serve after a great Italian meal. It doesn't take very long to make, but it leaves a lasting impression. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 3-inch-high sponge cake or 2 thinner ones
- 1/3 cup fresh brewed espresso coffee
- 1/3 cup dark rum
- 1 1/2 cups mascarpone cheese, room temperature
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Sifter
- Mixer
- 2 bowls
- Knife
- Cake plate with lip or inward slope

Mix coffee and rum together. Cut the sponge cake in half, or use one thin cake. Pour coffee mixture over the bottom layer, but not so much that it soaks the cake and it falls apart.

With a mixer, blend the cheese and sugar together until fluffy. Spread half of the mixture over the bottom layer and place the top layer on.

Sprinkle top layer with a little coffee mixture to give it flavor. Spread the remaining cheese mixture on the top layer.

Use a sifter to sift a thin coat of powered sugar on top. Then sift a thick coat of unsweetened cocoa on top of the sugar.

Refrigerate for 2 or more hours before serving it to your guests.
