Even though the Avon name is synonymous with beauty and cosmetics, Avon products go beyond makeup, perfume and skin care. While you can use Avon cosmetics as a springboard to begin a conversation with potential customers, the other items Avon has in its vast catalog will help you reach a wide base of buyers should you choose to become an Avon representative. You can grow in many ways once you become part of the Avon family and you can do so at your own pace or even pick only the methods that work for you. Here are a few suggestions for how you can sell Avon products as you start and build your own Avon business.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer and Internet connection
  • Current Avon catalogs
  • Avon product demos and samples
  1. Step 1

Visit the official Avon website (see Resources section below) to sign up to become an Avon representative. You will be contacted by the Avon district sales manager in your area for a meeting.

  2. Step 2

Set up your personal Avon website with the instructions that come with the welcome kit given to you by your Avon district sales manager. Even before you inform your friends and family that you are now an official Avon representative, customers can purchase items for direct delivery from your online Avon store.

  3. Step 3

Have an open house event once you familiarize yourself with Avon's products. Make sure you have enough Avon catalogs with your contact information to hand to all who come. Those who attend are potential clients and this is your opportunity to build rapport with them. Send an email with a link to your Avon online store to friends and acquaintances who cannot make it.

  4. Step 4

Throw a makeup party where you give makeovers to attendees once you are comfortable using Avon products. It is not necessary to have samples of every product; you can build your arsenal of demo items up over time. In the meantime, you can get creative. Throw a party focused on just the skin care products, or lipsticks and lip glosses. Host parties like this on a regular basis to get more customers and sell more products.

  5. Step 5

Grow your business by following up with customers. You don't always have to call them on the phone. Use the tools on your Avon online account to send eCards to customers from time to time, even if it is just to say hello. The Avon-themed eCards will be a reminder about the existence of your business.

  6. Step 6

Maintain a blog or other website where you write about Avon products. Post clear pictures of the products, whether you are discussing makeup, apparel, accessories or any other Avon product. Those who subscribe to your blog and anyone who stumbles upon it will be informed of the latest and best Avon items, which can be ordered from your online store.

  7. Step 7

Recruit others to sell Avon products once you feel ready to mentor those who are thinking about starting an Avon business. You will earn money with every sale made by those you have recruited.
