Wrap an Injured Shoulder

Shoulder injuries can be extremely painful and difficult to deal with. Many individuals sustain shoulder injuries by lifting too much weight overhead during sports activities, or from strenuous workouts. The key to dealing with the pain is to act fast after the injury occurs and to get an ice pack and a wrap on the shoulder as soon as possible. It is important to make sure that the injured shoulder is also wrapped properly so that you avoid causing further damage to that area.

Instructions

    • 1

Grab an ice pack and immediately place it over the injured shoulder. Make sure that you have someone who is available to help you with the wrapping process and to hold the ice pack in place.

    • 2

Stand in a tea pot position. The injured person stands with the uninjured arm pointed straight out to the side slightly elevated like a tea pot spout. The injured arm should be bent at the elbow with the hand placed on the hip like the handle of a tea pot.

    • 3

Take an Ace bandage wrap or Saran wrap and wrap the bandage twice around the upper arm of the injured shoulder.

    • 4

Pull the wrap over the shoulder and down diagonally across the chest. Bring the wrap up diagonally across the injured person's back up to the injured shoulder. Repeat this two more times.

    • 5

Finish up the wrap by wrapping the bandage around the upper arm again.

    • 6

Take some masking tape and trace the path of the wrap around the arm and across the shoulder and chest to secure the wrap in place.
