How to Generate Blog Ideas
Writing a blog can be a fun way to express yourself and amuse your friends and others, but what happens when you run out of ideas? Many bloggers start out strong but eventually give up when the well runs dry. But coming up with ideas doesn't have to be hard. Whether your blog is commercial in nature or just for fun, you can use these ideas to keep fresh blog posts coming, day in and day out.

Generating Ideas
-
1
Write it down. We all have great ideas while driving, walking the dog, falling asleep, or while sitting in a meeting or class. Because we can't run to the computer every time inspiration hits, a small notebook is a great way to capture the ideas for later. A digital tape recorder can also be used to record your ideas.
-
2
Set aside time to brainstorm. When you have some empty time, free-write ideas for 10 or 15 minutes. Just put every idea, good or not, down on paper. After you've done this exercise, review your ideas and see if you can expand on any of them. Some may generate spin-offs or ideas for a series.

3
Explore your passions. Everybody has things they are interested in that could become blog entries. Maybe dinosaurs were your passion in third grade. Write about dinosaurs. Maybe you like indie bands. Write about them.
-
4
Learn something new. Going to school or taking some sort of class? Write about what you are learning. You may even get better grades as a result.
-
5
Write a review. Add book reviews to your blog and join the Amazon affiliates program. Or do music reviews or concert reviews, anything that intrigues you.
-
6
Organize ideas into themes. Many popular bloggers get their ideas by channeling their thoughts into themes. Monday may be the day you talk about saving money. On Tuesday, you may share your ideas about rock bands. Each day of the week can have a different theme, and readers will look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

Find a gimmick and use it. Maybe you like to take photos or try new recipes. Think about posting the photo of the day or the recipe of the day and then using that as a springboard to your blogging. Anything you do daily can be a gimmick. A joke, a funny story, a news event; all are possible gimmicks that will keep folks coming back for more.
-
8
Have a contest or offer a prize. Challenge your readers to something and offer them a prize for it. Maybe you're crafty. Offer something handmade to the first five people to tell you why they should be the recipient of your handiwork. Or maybe you offer a service. Give a freebie or a discount to the first person to ask.
