How to Prepare for the Driver's Test

The final step in any young driver's quest to get a driver's license is the driver's test. This test requires the execution of certain driving skills in your car and can be a nerve-wracking experience for young drivers. Knowing what to practice will help inexperienced drivers improve their chances of success.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice driving as much as possible. Drive on side streets, busy boulevards and freeways. Practice at the correct speed limits and making left and right turns.

    • 2

Practice merging onto a freeway. An essential part of most driver's tests, merging involves maintaining the correct speed, the correct distance from other cars and checking your necessary mirrors and blind spots.

    • 3

Practice stopping at red lights and stop signs. Braking should occur far before you reach the cars stopped at a light or stop sign. Look both ways at stop signs and lights once they turn green.

    • 4

Practice turning on the radio or adjusting your mirror while driving. These challenges are usually required during a driver's test. Also, make sure you frequently check your mirrors while you drive.

    • 5

Practice parallel parking. Often the last step of your driver's test, parallel parking can be practiced with cones like the one at most tests or with cars parked on your street.

    • 6

Clean out your car before your test. There is no eating or drinking while driving, and this will reflect your focus on just driving. Also, turn off your cell phone and the car radio.
