How to Install a Cabin Air Filter in a Mazda Speed 6
The cabin air filter is a simple component that can make a big difference in the air inside your Mazda 6's passenger compartment. When it's clean and providing a free flow of air, your cabin atmosphere will smell fresh and free of allergens and your vents will blow with full force. But when the filter is clogged, you will lose pressure in your vents and your cabin air will begin to get stale and pick up odors. Replace yours whenever you replace your engine air filter for best results.

1
Open the glove box on the passenger's side. Remove contents.
-
2
Look at the outside of the right edge of the glove compartment door with the door open. You should see a plastic clip attached to the side of the compartment exterior, with an elastic cord extending from the clip to deeper inside the dashboard. Remove this clip by pulling up the tab at the bottom of the clip.

3
Put your hands on the outside edges of the glove compartment exterior and gently squeeze them together. You must push the sides together just enough so that the edges of the glove compartment can clear the edges of the molded dashboard assembly surrounding it. When you get the glove compartment past this part of the dash, it will just swing forward and hang freely while you finish the rest of the process.
-
4
Locate the cabin air filter compartment. It is a black plastic rectangular case just slightly larger than your replacement filter. Remove the door on the front of the case.
-
5
Take out the old filter. It will slide right out of the case.
-
6
Put in the new filter. Make sure that the arrow printed on the edge of the filter is facing out through the opening and is pointed down. This ensures that the filter is facing the right direction and is aligned for proper air flow.
-
7
Replace the door on the cabin air filter case.
-
8
Push the glove compartment back up and into place. You'll need to squeeze the sides together again to get it past the dash.
-
9
Snap the plastic clip back into place on the right side of the glove compartment.
-
10
Put everything back into the glove compartment and close the door.
