  1. How to Install a Bluetooth Printer

Power on your Bluetooth technology on both the computer and printer. Your computer should have a Bluetooth icon on your computer's desktop. When your Bluetooth portal opens, you should see a navigation menu bar at the top of the portal screen. Click on "File" or "Options," and locate your connection settings. Click "Enable" or "Power On" to place your computer in Discovery Mode. Your computer's Bluetooth icon will appear on the desktop taskbar.

Configure and power on your printer's Bluetooth capability. Your Bluetooth printer, on the other hand, will have button commands for powering on your Bluetooth capability. This button will have the Bluetooth symbol on it. Press and hold this button until your Bluetooth connection settings appear on your LED screen. Scroll down the Connection settings list and select the action or command designated for powering on your Bluetooth capability for Discovery Mode.

Add the printer to your computer's "Add Printer Wizard" to initiate the installation process manually. Click the "Start" icon on your desktop taskbar and access the Control Panel folder in the Start menu drop box. When the Control Panel loads, make sure the screen is configured to Control Panel Home, rather than Classic View. In the Control Panel, you will see a thumbnail icon folder labeled "Hardware and Sound." Access this folder and click on the subtopic link "Printers." When the Printers explorer screen appears, click "Add a Printer." When the Add Printer Wizard screen appears, click on the second option "Add a Network, Wireless, or Bluetooth Printer." Your computer will now begin to search for the printer's Bluetooth signal.

Click "Install," once your computer has detected the printer. Your printer's virtual drivers will begin installing its components to your computer automatically. (The printer's drivers serve as the installation software for the printer to become functional on your computer.) You must select this action to complete the installation process successfully. The printer's virtual driver port will appear once the printer's file components have been installed. The printer's manufacturer's icon will be your indication that the installation is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Both devices have to be in discovery mode for a device connection to be made. Enable your Bluetooth technology on both devices before attempting to install the printer. Try keeping both the computer and printer in close range when attempting to make your initial connection. Keep in mind that each Bluetooth model printer is initially the same, regarding installation, but some software configurations depend on the printer's manufacturer. Therefore, it is important to keep your manufacturer's installation manual for reference.

  • Make sure both the computer and printer have Bluetooth capability. If both devices are not Bluetooth compatible, there will be no way communication can be made between the two devices and the printer will not function properly. You must choose "Install" in your Add Printer Wizard to ensure that the printer is fully functional.
