How to Troubleshoot an Apple iPod Video

Apple iPods are extremely popular portable music devices. Although iPods Videos can be user friendly, there are times when your iPod Video may give you some technical trouble. If your iPod Video is freezing or giving you some other similar technical problem, there are steps you can follow to troubleshoot your device.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Make sure your battery is not completely dead. Plug your device into a power source to ensure that a your iPod Video is not suffering from a lack of power.

  2. Step 2

    Make sure the Hold switch is not on. Leaving the Hold switch on is a common mistake that can make the iPod Video appear to be frozen.

  3. Step 3

    Perform a hard reset of your iPod Video. To do this, simultaneously press the Menu button and the circular middle button for 4 to 5 seconds until an Apple logo appears.

  4. Step 4

    Make sure your firmware is up to date. Connect your iPod Video to your computer and access iTunes. Once you're connected, iTunes will automatically notify you if you need to update your firmware.

  5. Step 5

    Restore your iPod Video. If the previous steps do not fix your iPod Video, restore it by connecting it to iTunes and clicking the Restore button. Just be warned that this will erase all of the data you have stored on your iPod Video.
