How to Use White Magic
"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight...." By uttering these words while gazing at the first star of the evening and focusing on a wish with all your heart, you were using white magic without even realizing it. A weak form, no doubt, and with a few small ritual steps missing, but for all intents and purposes, you were attempting to cast a spell. White magic, in particular, is a fundamental part of our culture, from blowing out the candles on a birthday cake to carrying a lucky rabbit's foot; the intent is to benefit an individual while harming no one else. The guide below can help you better understand and use white magic in your daily life.
Things You'll Need
- Altar cloths, variety of colors

1
Clearly define your purpose. Begin with an end goal in mind. What are you trying to accomplish? White magic is used to bring about good--increase luck, improve health, improve creative output, etc. It is never used to intentionally harm another or to create chaos or disharmony in the universe.

2
Check the moon phase and understand how time affects the casting of a spell. The full moon is a favorite spell-casting time since it represents the highest amount of available energy for all spells. Additionally, spells for increasing things (such as money and love) should be said during the waxing moon, while spells for decreasing things (such as bad luck) should be said during the waning moon. The new moon is the best time for spells to remove that which is causing you harm.

3
Master the fundamentals of preparation for a ritual. Decide if the best way to attract the proper energy involves chanting, drums or dancing. Spiritually cleanse your self and your space through burning incense or herbs, taking a ritual bath or even meditation. There are many methods to magic. You must find the way that is right for you.

4
Learn which ingredients to use and when. While planning your spell, consider which colors attract the energy you desire, which herbs to use, what elements might be helpful to your purpose and what sort of candles might be beneficial to your goals. For example, orange is associated with change, while pink is associated with love.

5
Know how to cast a basic spell. You must develop a ritual for casting the circle and learn to call upon the appropriate Spirit Guides. You must clearly communicate your purpose to those whom you have called to your circle and explain what you wish to achieve. Then you must raise enough energy with your chanting or drums to complete the task and direct it thorough the use of candles and herbs. Energy must then be grounded, the spirits thanked and the circle closed (see the next section for an example).
-
6
Practice spell writing and research your spell ideas. Good spells must rhyme, and this alone takes practice. If you're stuck, use a rhyming dictionary or borrow a similar spell from an online spell book. But remember, a spell of your own works best because only you know what you truly want.
-
7
Understand what magic can and cannot do. Even with practice and knowledge of magic's many elements, you cannot change what the universe has deemed is fated to be.
Example Spell
-
8
Cast this simple spell to attract love (in general) into your life.
-
9
Begin at sunset on a Friday when the moon is waxing since this spell is to increase or attract.
-
10
Cast your circle and call upon the Goddess Venus, the goddess of love.
-
11
Make a fire in a small fireproof container and add these herbs: catnip, rose petals, ginger, basil and lavender. While the herbs burn, recite the following chant, "My one true love has yet to come, I've yet to call their name, but soon their heat will beat for me, by the fires of these flames, By the power of the three, send my lover unto me, so may it be."
-
12
Focus on thoughts of love until the flames are gone, then thank Venus and declare the circle closed.

Tips & Warnings
The most important element in any magic is emotion. You have to truly want something to happen, and you must believe that it can.
Magic has two basic laws. If it harms no one, then so be it and anything you send out into the universe will come back to you three times stronger. Take care with what you ask for, and be certain you are always working with a pure heart and the best intentions.
