Foggy tail lights look old, dirty and ugly. They can also be dangerous because the light does not shine as brightly through the foggy lens as it can through a clean lens. Foggy tail lights can make your vehicle look older than it is. Learn how to fix foggy tail lights so you can have tail lights that look like new.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sandpaper (300, 800 and 1000-grit)
  • Liquid buffing compound
  • Plastic polish
  • Towels
  • Water
  • Masking tape
  • Masking paper
  1. Step 1

Place masking tape and paper around the tail light so that no paint is exposed. The sand paper should rub on the paint, or it will scratch the paint.

  2. Step 2

Sand the tail light with the 300-grit sand paper. Use water to keep the sand paper wet while sanding. Rinse the tail light after sanding.

  3. Step 3

Move on to the 800-grit and then the 1000-grit sand paper, keeping them wet while sanding. Rinse the tail lights when sanding is done.

  4. Step 4

Use a towel and liquid buffing compound to vigorously rub the tail lights in a circular motion. Do this until the entire tail light has been wiped down.

  5. Step 5

Apply the plastic polish with a clean towel and polish until the tail lights shine.

Tips & Warnings
  • Repeat these steps once a year as the film/fog builds up on tail lights and head lights.
