Drilling a hole in Plexiglass is accomplished with a power drill, and a sharp or metal drill bit. Plexiglass can crack and break, similar to glass during the cutting process. Properly securing the Plexiglass with a clamp, and reducing drill friction are key elements of successfully drilling a hole in a piece of Plexiglass.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plexiglass
  • Power drill
  • Drill bit (Metal or steel piercing bits work best. Glass and tile drill bits are also highly recommended.)
  • Sandpaper, or power sander.
  • Clamps to secure Plexiglass while drilling
  • Water
  • Safety eyewear and gloves
  • Level work surface
  1. Step 1

Place Plexiglass on a flat and level surface. Clamp or otherwise firmly secure Plexiglass in place.

  2. Step 2

Measure and mark portion of the Plexiglass for drilling.

  3. Step 3

Wrap masking tape around top and bottom of marked drilling area. Mark masking tape for drilling if Plexiglass marking isn't visible.

  4. Step 4

Drill hole using a high speed steel or metal piercing drill bit. Glass or tile piercing drill bits also recommended.

  5. Step 5

Sprinkle water lightly as needed to reduce heat and friction while drilling.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use 1/4-inch drill bits for Plexiglass holes up to 1 inch in diameter. Use a paddle drill bit for larger holes.
