A staple gun is an indispensable tool for a variety of projects including upholstery, construction, decoration and other crafts. Though there are a wide variety of staple guns on the market, their basic function is the same. They all fasten one surface to another with a swift and forceful application of a sturdy staple. This tool is relatively easy to use with a few basic safety precautions, and even a beginner should be able to master the staple gun quickly.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Staple gun
  • Staples
  • Hard surface such as wood
  • Material or paper to fasten to the surface

    Operating a Staple Gun

  1. Step 1

Open the slider of the staple gun and check for staples. If no staples are present, you will need to insert them into the slider.

  2. Step 2

If the staple gun has a lock, you should disengage it. You should always have the lock engaged when the gun is not in use.

  3. Step 3

Cover your hard surface with the material or paper that you intend to fasten to it. Press the nose of the gun firmly onto the surface where you want the staple.

  4. Step 4

While holding the gun steady, press the lever on the back of the gun to insert the staple. Depending on the specific gun you are using, this may require a good deal of force.

  5. Step 5

Remove the gun to check that the staple was inserted correctly. Repeat steps 3 and 4 as needed to complete your project.
