People often think of gift certificates as impersonal despite their convenience. Rather than give these as presents that lack personality, why not create personalized gift certificate holders for the important people in your life?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Weighted scrapbook paper or wallpaper samples
  • Gift card
  • Envelope with which the gift certificate came
  • Ribbon
  • Miniature pictures
  • Stickers
  • Glitter
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  1. Step 1

Lay the wallpaper sample or scrapbook paper down on a smooth surface. Open up the gift card envelope so that each flap is showing, and place it on the paper. Trace around the template carefully with the pencil.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the envelope shape. Put the remainder of the paper aside for future projects. Fold all the flaps in until they meet in the middle.

  3. Step 3

Unfold the top and bottom flaps, overlapping the two middle sections, and glue them together. Bring the bottom flap in, and glue it on top of the two middle pieces. Allow the envelope to dry.

  4. Step 4

Once dry, fold the top flap in. Using a handheld hole puncher, make coordinating holes in the middle of the envelope where it meets with the top flap. Then punch the top flap in the same spot. There should be two holes in each portion of the gift certificate holder. A piece of ribbon can serve as a fastener to keep the envelope closed.

  5. Step 5

Place the gift certificate in the envelope and fold down the top flap for the final time. Thread a piece of ribbon through the two holes, and tie into a secure bow. Flip the holder over and add glitter, stickers or miniature photographs. Add the recipient's name to the gift.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can find free templates at websites such as that of Mirkwood Designs. Glossy magazine advertisements make great envelopes, as well.
  • Use an ample amount of glue, but be careful not to seal the entire envelope together. The person receiving the gift card may want to keep the holder as a memento.
