Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut the contrasting fabric for one set into 16 squares, 5 ½ inches-by-5 ½ inches. Do the same for the second contrasting fabric to make 16 squares the same size. When completed, you will have two sets of eight bags each.

    • 2

Turn two squares of the same fabric right side in, aligned together. Using the sewing machine threaded with white thread, straight stitch ¼ inch from the edge on four sides, leaving a 2-inch space open and not stitched. Do the same for all the fabric pieces. Turn each bag right side out, using the point of the scissors to make clean, pointed corners.

    • 3

      Iron each bag flat.

    • 4

Fill each bag with ¾ cup dried Navy beans. Set aside so the openings are facing up.

    • 5

With a needle threaded with white thread, slip stitch the openings in each bag closed and secure so the beans do not fall out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Contrasting fabric can be different colors. Children can help with this project.

  • An adult should handle the iron and sewing machine.
