Visit a website that has free music conversion software and download an MP4 to MP3 conversion program. If you have an MP4 file, you must first convert it to an MP3. If you already have an MP3 file, you can proceed to Step 4.

Install the conversion program on your computer following the onscreen instructions.

Click Add files. Double-click your chosen MP4 file and then click the Convert button.

Download and install an MP3 to ringtone (MID) converter. Click the Open audio file button and select your file. A visual representation of your file appears on the screen.

Highlight the portion of the file you wish to convert. You can observe which parts of the audio file correspond to the audio graph on the screen by clicking the Play button. Click the Mid button. Name your file and click OK. To convert the entire song, you must buy the full version of the program.
