Fiberglass Shower Walls

A fiberglass shower stall when it is new is a breeze to clean. It is shiny with a perfectly smooth surface and almost no soap residue sticks to it. However, after a few months, you will notice that water residue and soap scum is causing a dull haze on the previously shiny surface. It's time to clean and care for that surface, restoring the shine of your once-new shower stall. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Spray the surface with an all-purpose cleaner such as Lysol's All-Purpose Cleaner with Bleach. It is designed to remove the soap scum with little to no scrubbing.

    • 2

Allow the soap to sit on the surface for about three minutes. This gives the chemicals time to react with the deposits on the shower wall.

    • 3

Rub the shower wall in a circular motion with a damp sponge. Start at the top and work your way down to the floor. Don't forget to do a little extra scrubbing around the faucets and drains where water and soap might sit.

    • 4

Rinse the surface with hot water and check to see if the cleanser has removed the scum. If there is still residue left, reapply the soap and follow Step 2 and 3 again.

    • 5

Wipe the shower wall down with a paper towel or cotton cloth. This will remove any water droplets.

Tips & Warnings

  • In the future, keep the buildup to a minimum by wiping down the shower every day after the last shower has been taken.

  • Do not use an abrasive scrubber on fiberglass showers.

Other than the reminder not to use abrasive cleaners on a fiberglass tub/shower insert, this is the stupidest "how to" article. Imagine! "If there's still residue left... follow Step 2 and 3 again" and again and again. By this method, you could probably use any non-abrasive cleaner; again and again and again and again, until it's clean! Now, didn't you already know that?
