How to Get Rid of a Background Trojan Virus

A background Trojan virus is a variant of a Trojan horse malware application that continually runs in the background of your computer processes. The background Trojan is similar to other Trojan viruses in that it uses subversive means to trick the user into downloading or executing a file to infect the computer through downloading of multimedia files, games or taking advantage of known operating system vulnerabilities. Once your computer is infected with the background Trojan, it will attempt to alter files on your computer to further spread the infection. An example of a background Trojan virus is the Happy99 Trojan.

Instructions

    • 1

Restart your computer in “Safe Mode with Networking” by depressing the “F8” key numerous times during the reboot process. Select the “Safe Mode with Networking” menu option when it appears on your computer screen.

    • 2

Disable your computer’s system restore feature. To do this, right click your “My Computer” icon and on the next menu that appears, choose the “System Restore” tab and select the check box that is next to “Turn Off System Restore.” This will prevent any backed-up copies of the background Trojan from reinfecting your computer and prevent other infected files from remaining on your computer.

    • 3

Manually scan your computer for copies of the Happy99 background Trojan virus by right clicking the “My Computer” icon and selecting the “Search” menu option. Search for each of these files individually, “SKA.exe, SKA.dll, and WSOCK32.DLL and WSOCK32.SKA.” Delete the SKA.exe, SKA.DLL and WSOCK.DLL files, and then rename the WSOCK.SKA file as WSOCK.DLL.

Run an update on your anti-virus definitions and perform a complete scan of your computer.

    • 5

Choose the “Clean Infected Files” menu option once the virus scan is finished if it detects any infected files on your computer.
