How to Remove Mildew Stain From Cotton Pants
Mildew is the unfortunate byproduct of mold, a fungus that thrives in warm damp places. Areas that have high humidity and heat combined are likely to have more problems with mold and mildew than areas that have a more arid climate. If mildew finds its way onto clothing, it will leave an unsightly stain. Mildew stains should be treated immediately as they can spread and cause more damage the longer it is allowed to stay. Take the pants outside and brush away as much mildew as possible with a soft bristle brush. If this must be done inside, then brush over the trash can being careful not to get any mildew on the floor.

Place the stained pants in the washing machine and add a scoop of laundry detergent and a cup of color safe bleach.

Allow the washing machine to agitate for five minutes before turning it off. Allow the pants to sit in the machine and soak in the bleach and water for at least an hour.

Turn the machine back on and allow it to finish the cycle.

Hang the pants outside to dry in direct sunlight. Bring them back inside once they are completely dry.

Tips & Warnings
Sprinkle salt over a persistent stain and squeeze lemon juice over it until the area is damp. Allow this to sit for at least a half an hour before laundering as usual.
