How to Make Mineral Water

Calcium is a mineral necessary for good health, and it is obtained almost solely from dairy products. Magnesium is also very important, and is only available in select foods. Mineral water is rich in both calcium and magnesium, and can be ingested daily as a dietary supplement. Making mineral water takes only a few minutes to create, and it is very inexpensive. This recipe yields approximately 1 liter of mineral water.

Things You'll Need

• Water filter pitcher
• Pitcher
• Baking soda
• Epsom salt
• Potassium bicarbonate
• Soda siphon
• Carbon dioxide cartridges
• Glass

Instructions

1. Pour 1 liter of water into a water filter pitcher. As the water runs through, the heavy metals are filtered out, leaving only calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium.

2. Move the filtered water into a large, clean pitcher. Measure 1/8 tsp. of baking soda and add it into the water. Measurements must be precise or the minerals will react differently, forming unwanted chemicals.

3. Add 1/8 tsp. of Epsom salt and 1/8 tsp. of potassium bicarbonate to the filtered baking soda water. The bicarbonates added to the water make it more alkaline. When consumed, this raises the pH levels of body fluids.

4. Mix the ingredients until they completely dissolve in the water. Pour the mineral water into the soda siphon. Plug the carbon dioxide cartridge into the soda siphon using the instructions that came with it.

5. Squeeze the handle on the soda siphon to release the fizzy mineral water into a glass. Mineral water is naturally fizzy. Adding the carbonation imitates this, resulting in an almost identical liquid.

Tips & Warnings

• Potassium bicarbonate is used in wine making and can be purchased from home brewing suppliers. The measurements must be exact; if a 1/8 tsp. measuring spoon is not available, double the recipe and use ¼ tsp. with 2 liters of filtered water.
