How to Make Bracelets With Construction Paper

Making craft jewelry is a great activity for kids. It takes focus and creativity, and when the fun is done, you get to wear the results. Making a bracelet can be as easy as cutting a strip of construction paper and taping the sides together to form a loop. But if you want a piece of jewelry that your kid can actually wear in the real world, it takes just a bit more time and care, a few craft materials and a little artistic skill.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut strips of different sizes out of construction paper. You can use several different colors of paper. Make sure one of the strips is fairly wide and that it wraps around your wrist with an inch or two left over---this will be the main wristband.

    • 2

Using markers or poster paint, decorate the strips of paper in different patterns and colors---including the main wristband. Diamonds, stripes and X's are easy repeating patterns that look great.

    • 3

      Set aside your main wristband.

    • 4

Put glue on one end of a thinner decorative strip, and attach one end to the bottom edge of the main wristband.

    • 5

Wrap the thinner strip around the wristband, and glue the other end to the wristband.

    • 6

Take another thin decorative strip and glue one end to the bottom edge of the wristband, wrap it around the width of the wristband and glue the other end down.

    • 7

Repeat with as many decorative strips as you choose. You can wrap the strips to make it look like an even symmetric design, or make it more haphazard and funky.

    • 8

Once all the strips are attached to the main wristband, trim any excess ends off.

    • 9

Wrap the wristband around your wrist, and tuck one end of the wristband under the wrapped strips on the other end. The wrapped strips have formed little loops around the main wristband, so you can tuck the main strip under those loops. Don't tape or glue the two ends together. This way you can remote the bracelet and put it back on without ripping the paper.
