How to Make Beanie Hats for Kids
This cute kids beanie hat is inspired by the granny square stitch and is very quick to work up. It uses less than a skein of yarn and is a wonderful project for a new crocheter because it uses simple stitches and is worked in a continuous round instead of a turning row. Small crochet projects are easily transported, and this granny beanie hat for kids is no exception. Take it along as you ride in the car, sit in the doctor's office or wait to pick up your kids.

Chain three and slip stitch to the first chain to make a ring. Chain three and double crochet two times in the ring. The chain three will count as a double crochet, making a cluster of three double crochet stitches. Chain one, and stitch three double crochets in a cluster again. Chain one and stitch three double crochets in a cluster twice more, ending with a chain one. Slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain three. You will end with a total of four clusters of three double crochet stitches and four chain one stitches.

Slip stitch to the middle double crochet of the cluster and chain three. Double crochet twice in the same stitch, creating a new double crochet cluster. Chain one and stitch three double crochets in a cluster in the next chain one space. Chain one and stitch three double crochets in the middle double crochet of the next cluster. Repeat chain one and three double crochet clusters around the round, ending with a chain one. Slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain three. You will end with a total of eight clusters of three double crochet stitches and eight chain one stitches.
