Creating scarves and other objects with knitting looms is very popular. It is easier than regular knitting. You can use any yarn out there, but the novelty yarns such as fun fur and eyelash yarn make funky accessories you'll enjoy wearing and giving away.

Instructions

  1. Simple Steps to a Tube Scarf

    • 1
Wrap end of yarn around side peg, leaving a tail.

Wrap the end of yarn two or three times around the peg on the side of the loom. Leave a tail of about 6 inches. Hold the yarn secure to the side peg with one hand.

    • 2
Wrap yarn around each peg clockwise.

Wrap each peg beginning with the one to the right of the side peg that you wrapped in Step 1. Pass yarn around the back and then the front of the peg clockwise. Proceed to the next peg on the right and wrap the same way. Work your way around the loom. Don't wrap too tightly.

    • 3
Push loops down and wrap each peg again.

Push each loop to the bottom of the pegs against the base of the loom when all pegs have been wrapped. Wrap all pegs again, just like in Step 2.

    • 4
Lift bottom loop over top loop and off the peg.

Lift the bottom loop of yarn up and over the top loop using the hook that came with the loom or a crochet hook. Release it from both the hook and the peg. You've made your first stitch. Repeat with loops from other pegs.

    • 5
The scarf grows as you repeat the steps.

Push the remaining loops to the bottom of the pegs. You can release the tail of yarn you wrapped on the side peg now. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 (wrap, lift off bottom loops, push top loops down) until your scarf is your desired length.

    • 6
      Loops ready to bind off.

Lift the first loop off the peg but leave it on the hook to end (or bind off) the scarf. Lift the second loop off the next peg and leave it on the hook. Use your fingers to pull the first loop you removed over the second loop and off the hook. You have bound off one stitch. Lift the next loop off of its peg and onto your hook. Pass the first loop over the second and off hook with your fingers as before. Repeat until all loops are off the pegs and only one remains on your hook.

    • 7

Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail. Pass the end of the tail through the last remaining loop, and pull it to tighten into a knot.

    • 8

Use your yarn needle to weave the yarn end into stitches along the edge of the scarf. Weave in the tail you left at the beginning the same way. Now your scarf is ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can add a fringe to your scarf by knotting lengths of yarn to the ends of your scarf. If you want to close the ends of your tube, omit Step 6 (binding off) and simply thread a length of yarn through each loop lifting it from the peg. When all loops are strung on the yarn, pull it tight to gather the stitches and knot. Hide yarn ends as in Step 8.
