- Computer
- SD card

Step 1
Load the SD card onto your computer. To do this, you need to have an SD card reader. Newer computers come with these readers built in, but older computers may need to load them using a USB SD card reader.

Go to "My Computer" to find the SD card once the card is loaded. The SD card could be labeled as many things, but often, it is labeled as "Removable Disk" and has a drive designation labeled ":E", ":F", ":G" or possibly higher, depending on how many drives are installed on your computer.

Right-click on the drive and select the option that says "Format...." This will load up the Windows Format tool that easily formats the SD card for you.

Make sure that the "Quick Format" option is unchecked in the window and then press the "Start" button. Wait until the progress bar has reached the end and do remove the SD card or it could become corrupted.

Press the "Close" button once the formatting has completed. Remove the SD card and the computer portion is finished.

Insert the SD card into your Nintendo Wii and power the system on. Go into the Wii system menu by aiming the Wii remote to the bottom left-hand corner of the screen and selecting it.

Click on the "Data Management" menu within the System menu. This menu will load all of the files located on your Nintendo Wii, including saved channels and game saves. Click on the second tab to load the SD card. When you do, there should be nothing in the menu because the SD card was just formatted.

Step 8
Move a file from the Wii to the SD card by selecting it and choosing the "Copy" option. Now your SD is properly formatted and can be used with the Wii.
