Make Pie Candles

Candles that smell like pie, whether they are pumpkin pie or apple pie scented, can make a house more inviting and homey. Creating your own homemade pie candles can be accomplished easily and cost a lot less than buying individual candles at a craft store. When making scented candles at home, typically the scent is much stronger and lasts much longer than store bought candles. Everything you need to make your own pie candles can be found in the Resources section at the bottom of this article.

Instructions

    • 1
      Melt Beeswax over Medium Heat

Pour 1 lb. of beeswax pellets into an empty coffee can and place it into the top half of a double boiler. Fill the bottom half of the double boiler half full of water. Heat on a stove over medium heat until the beeswax pellets melt completely. Stir in 1/4 cup of fragrance oil scented like pumpkin or apple pie.

    • 2
      Dip the Candle Wick

Once the beeswax is combined thoroughly with the pie scented fragrance oil, dip the ends of an 18 inch section of candle wick into the melted wax. Each end should be submerged approximately 6-8 inches down for 2 seconds each. Do not leave the candle wick in longer than 2 seconds or the wax will melt off of the wick. Let the candle wick cool for about 10 seconds in between dips.

    • 3
      Clay Bricks

Once the candle is as wide as you would like it, place the middle of the candle wick onto a wooden paint stirrer. Place two clay bricks vertically on a flat surface about 8 inches apart. Place the wooden paint stirrer in between the bricks, letting the candles dangle down. Cool completely.

Once the candles have cooled completely, you can place the pie scented candles around your house so that the air will be filled with the scent of fresh baked pie. Make sure that you burn candles only when they are placed in a non-flammable candle holder, and keep all flames away from children.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep hot wax and flames away from children.
