How to Fit a Golf Glove

When you play golf, the only thing between your hands and the club is most often a golf glove. Finding a glove that fits properly is not only important, it may be one of the easiest aspects of playing the game. The key to selecting a good glove all boils down to comfort and how the glove feels on your hand. The glove does play an important role in the game. It helps prevent blisters, acts as a buffer, helps with moisture control, reduces slips between your fingers and the golf grip and more.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine your hand size using a fitting chart or trial and error. Also make note that some manufactures offer normal and cadet sizes. Cadet sizes are often made with players with shorter fingers in mind as gloves are made for men, women, juniors and children.

    • 2

Decide on a type of glove material: synthetic material or leather. Also, decide if you will play using a traditional one glove style. Today, more players seem to be using two gloves, one on each hand. Other options include fingerless or woven (often for women players) and specialty gloves designed for rain.

    • 3

Try on gloves. Start with your fingers first, then the thumb. As you put the glove on, work it on by smoothing it out instead of pulling from the cuff. This will avoid stretching and tearing.

    • 4

Determine how the glove feels. There should be no loose material or bunching in the palms or fingers. The glove should fit very snug like a second skin if using a leather or synthetic. Rain gloves may fit a bit differently depending on manufacturer. There should be no excess material at the fingertips.

    • 5

Pick up a club and swing a few times. If the fit is good, you will not notice any bunching or folding of material in your grip.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always avoid gloves that bunch in the palm or have excess material at the finger tips.
