Things You'll Need:
- Tape measure
- Screwdriver
- Carpenter's level
- Pencil

Step 1
For mounting inside the window casing-(Measure from the top of the window down 1/2 the diameter of the shade plus 3/4 inch to prevent the shade from binding against the top of the casing. Mark this point. At this point, measure the distance between the window casings and subtract 1/4 inch. This is most important when mounting between casings. Have the shade cut to this width. Most shade purchases include the correct brackets and screws for both inside and outside mounting, or even ceiling mounts.
-
Step 2
Brackets must be mounted forward enough so the back of the rolled shade does not hit the window. From the center of the bracket, leave at least 1/2 the diameter of the rolled shade plus 1/2 inch to the window. Mark this point. Remember, shades in use roll more loosely than a brand new shade.
-
Step 3
Position the slotted bracket on the left casing at the correct height and distance from the window with the slot facing up. Screw into place. The right bracket with the round hole in the center must be positioned on the opposite casing at the same height and distance. Use a level to be sure the shade will be positioned correctly and screw bracket in place.
-
Step 4
To mount the shade place the round peg on the right end into the hole in the right bracket. Turn the shade so the blade end fits easily into the slot on the left bracket. The shade should operate freely. If the shade is too tight, remove it and unroll it halfway. Remount it and tug gently. It should be looser. If it is too loose, lower the shade about 18 inches. Remove it from the bracket and rewind it by hand. Too much tension can damage the spring. Rehang and test again.
-
Step 5
Outside mounting-Again, Brackets must be installed so they are aligned evenly on the casing and centered. Follow package directions when mounting them.
